Japanese Village Plaza is a specialty shopping center in the heart of Little Tokyo. It was a redevelopment project I was involved in as the project designer. This place is on First Street near the corner of San Pedro Street. These photographs were taken in 2005 and 2006.

andresalvador > This is the identification mark of the shopping center. It is a replica of a fire watch tower they use in Japan. A couple of people usually stays up the top to watch for fire. The Architect is David Hyun and Associates. these photos were taken during my visit to the place on 2005 and 2006.

andresalvador > This is latest photo on the watchtower. They have repainted it with a red color and emphasized the steel compression band below the solid wood timber posts.

andresalvador > This is part of the granite fountain at the plaza mall which is lighted up at night.

andresalvador > Taken inside a restaurant looking out at the open mall. The man on this side of the fence is on the outdoor dining area. I visited this place recently on 2006-07-27

andresalvador > Two friends are sitting on the fountain ledge and chatting in the open air mall.

andresalvador > Inside the restaurant, there is a small bar and a lone woman was sitting there when we entered to have lunch. She keeps looking at the entrance. She has the body language of someone waiting. We are were about to leave and she was still waiting. That is when I took this picture. Date taken 2006-07-27.

andresalvador > The mall was designed to the scale of human proportions similar to the villages in Japan.
