Park Guell is named after the the property owner and developer Eusebi Guell. Antonio Gaudi was his architect. His property was high above the the hills at some distance from the city during those times, in the 1920's. Gaudi's design was too radical and for its time and, as a real estate project, was a failure. The Barcelona City Council bought the property in 1922 and was converted by the city into a municipal park.
