The Walt Disney Concert Hall is the home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. It is designed to be one of the most acoustically sophisticated concert halls in the world, providing both visual and aural intimacy for an unparalleled musical experience. From the stainless steel curves of its striking exterior to the state-of-the-art acoustics of the hardwood-paneled main auditorium, the 3.6-acre complex embodies the unique energy and creative spirit of the City of Los Angeles and its orchestra. The building was designed by Frank o. Gehry, Architect.

The photos were taken during my trip to Los Angeles in January 2005.

andresalvador > The exterior of the Concert Hall is cladded in a flower-like wrapper of Italian limestone and stainless steel. The building's orientation , combined with the curving and folding exterior stone, presented highly sculptural compositions as viewers move along Grand Avenue and through the surrounding gardens and plazas. This building if you are are in Los Angeles is a "must see" for photographers.

andresalvador > This photo was also taken at the northwest side of the building at the roof terrace where there are sculptural works, a garden and a small amphitheater.

andresalvador > Here is another view of the Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. This was taken from the roof top terrace. The shades and tonal values of the building changes as the sun's position changes reminding me of the Grand Canyon.

andresalvador > It is a challenge to take pictures of this tall and wide building with narrow streets. Because of its varying planes of stainless steel siding, you get glare from different locations but it seems every corner is a nice picture opportunity. I decided to make it black and white picture because the stainless steel siding is already gray and it turns bluish in picture like the sky. B & W came out more interesting. The concert hall is on 111 South Grand Street almost across the Museum of Contemporary Art Building designed by Arata Isozaki.

andresalvador > The building's orientation , combined with the curving and folding exterior stone, presented highly sculptural compositions as viewers move along Grand Avenue and through the surrounding gardens and plazas. An extensive backstage technical area surrounds the Hall and opens onto a private garden for musicians. The backstage door opens off of a semi-public garden and the largest rehearsal room is placed near this entry to be used for small scale public performances. The openness of the backstage area is intended to encourage interaction between artists and the public.

Because of its varying planes of stainless steel siding, this building is a good photo opportunity for all. I decided to make it black and white picture because the stainless steel siding is already gray and it turns bluish in picture like the sky. B & W came out more interesting. andresalvador > This was taken at the north side on the roof terrace level. The roof terrace is fully landscape with a small stage and it is accessible by an elevator. There are sculptural works on it and is a pleasant place to rest your weary feet after a walking tour of downtown Los Angeles.
