IGUAZU' FALLS, ARGENTINA : Iguazu Falls, are waterfalls of the Iguazu River located on the border of the Brazilian state of Paraná and the Argentine province of Misiones. The falls divide the river into the upper and lower Iguazu. Their name comes from the Guarani or Tupi words y [ɨ] (water) and ûasú [waˈsu] (big). Legend has it that a God planned to marry a beautiful aborigine named Naipí, who fled with her mortal lover Tarobá in a canoe. In rage, the God sliced the river creating the waterfalls, condemning the lovers to an eternal fall. The first European to find the falls was the Spanish Conquistador Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca in 1541, after whom one of the falls in the Argentine side is named The falls were rediscovered by Boselli at the end of the nineteenth century, and one of the Argentine falls is named after him. PUENTE DE LA MUJER BRIDGE, BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA : The Puente de la Mujer (Spanish for "Woman's Bridge") is a footbridge in the Puerto Madero district of Buenos Aires, Argentina that spans dock 3 (dique 3). It is of the Cantilever spar cable-stayed bridge type and is also a swing bridge, but somewhat unique in its asymmetrical arrangement. It has a single mast with cables suspending a portion of the bridge which rotates 90 degrees in order to allow water traffic to pass. When it swings to allow watercraft passage the far end comes to a resting point on a stabilizing pylon. It was designed by Santiago Calatrava and is similar to his Puente del Alamillo and Sundial Bridge at Turtle Bay, but with a forward, rather than a reverse angled cantilever, as is seen in those bridges. The footbridge was donated by Alberto L. González to the City of Buenos Aires in gratitude for 60 years of work in the country. Started in 1998, it was completed on December 20, 2001. BARRIO LA BOCA, BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA : La Boca is a neighborhood, or barrio of the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires. It retains a strong European flavour, with many of its early settlers being from the Italian city of Genoa. In fact the name has a strong assonance with the Genoese neighborhood of Boccadasse (or Bocadaze in Genoese dialect), and some people believe that the Buenos Aires barrio was indeed named after it. The conventional explanation is that the neighborhood sits at the mouth ("boca" in Spanish) of the Riachuelo. In 1882, after a lengthy general strike, La Boca seceded from Argentina, and the rebels raised the Genoese flag, which was immediately torn down personally by then President Julio Argentino Roca. As one of Buenos Aires's 48 barrios, La Boca is located in the city's south-east near its old port. The barrio of Barracas is to the west; San Telmo and Puerto Madero are to the north. CACIQUE INACAYAL HOTEL, BARILOCHE, PATAGONIA, ARGENTINA : Our hotel in Bariloche is nicely located at the side of Lago Nahuel Huapi (Lake Nahuel Huapi) It has a fantastic view. We are lucky to have a room at the ground floor so you can just walk out the lawn and the lake. Most of these photographs are taken in early morning and early sunset. ESTANCIA SANTA SUSANA, LOS CARDALES, ARGENTINA : The estancias are linked to the history and the essence of Argentinian culture. Maybe it is due to the vastness of the land, where the sight is lost without finding any limits, that men and the countryside life forms are so particular. For such reason, the houses and inns that welcome visitors today are accurate representations of ARgentine identity. In them, the past and the present of both Creoles and immigrants are expressed. As don Athaualpa Yupanqui would say, “Geography leaves its marks on a man and his horse in the pampas, taming the space,... has plains and time and, just like the pampa, his voice has no eco. The mountain does give back his voice to the Indian who has never seen the sun rise or set”. And with wisdom, he defines the paisano as the one that the country has inside. The estancias of the countryside tell their story. The European large houses amidst the pampas plains, as well as the country houses that found their own space among the Northern reedbeds, or those which resist the Patagonian wind and aridness. These properties have always offered visitors a bonfire after a long trip, homebaked bread and hot mate (a very strong tea similar to Japanese green tea), poured by their owners, who welcome the visitors without asking questions about either origin or destination. And today, they continue to open their gates to whoever is in search for some quietness in the landscape. By the end of last century, Mr. Francisco Kelley, an Argentine citizen of Irish descendant named his land Santa Susana as homage to his wife Susana Caffey. The ranch is located in the district of Campana, Buenos Aires Province, town of Los Cardales. Santa Susana occupies an area of 1200 hectares mainly dedicated to agricultural activities. Almost 25 years ago it has been a magnet for tourists. It is located on the western shore of the estuary of the Río de la Plata, on the southeastern coast of the South American continent. Greater Buenos Aires conurbation, which also includes several Buenos Aires Province districts, constitutes the third-largest conurbation in Latin America, with a population of around 13 million. PARANA DELTA and TIGRE, ARGENTINA : The Parana Delta is the delta of the Parana River in Argentina. The Parana flows north–south and becomes an alluvial basin (a flood plain) between the Argentine provinces of Entre Ríos and Santa Fe, then emptying into the Río de la Plata. The Parana Delta starts to form between the cities of Santa Fe and Rosario, where the river splits into several arms, creating a network of islands and wetlands. Most of it is located in the jurisdiction of Entre Ríos, and parts in the north of Buenos Aires. It is conventionally divided into three parts. Tigre is a town in the Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, situated in the north of Greater Buenos Aires, 28 km (17 mi) north of Buenos Aires city. Tigre lies on the Paraná Delta and is an important tourist and weekend attraction, easily reached by bus and train services, including the scenic Tren de la Costa. It is the principal town of the Tigre Partido. The town sits on an island created by several small streams and rivers and was founded in 1820, after floods had destroyed other settlements in the area, then known as the Las Conchas Partido. The area's name derives from the “tigres” or jaguars that were hunted there, on occasions, in its early years. The area was first settled by Europeans who came to farm the land, and the port developed to serve the Delta and to bring fruit and wood from the Delta and ports upstream on the Parana river. Tigre is still an important timber processing port. The “Puerto de Frutos” (fruit port) is now a crafts fair located in the old fruit market by the riverside. The Naval Museum is also nearby. Antiques shops, riverside restaurants and pubs, the casino and Parque de la Costa, an amusement park and its renowned natural beauty make Tigre a popular tourist destination throughout the year. SWISS COLONY AND CATHEDRAL MOUNTAIN, BARILOCHE, PATAGONIA, ARGENTINA : On this tour we headed out of town to do the Circuito Chico, a tour in the Western part of the National Park here, where there are beautiful views on the lakes and mountains. This includes the Swiss Colony, the lake areas of Hotel Llao Llao, a cable ride to Cerro Campanario, a visit to the west end of Lake Nahuel Huapi, and a cable ride to Cathedral Mountain. A really beautiful experience of the natural Andean Region. Where in Buenos Aires is the BARILOCHE AREA?
